Economics and Politics (LL12)

There is a common structure to all joint honours degrees which requires that you take at least nine modules in Economics. In each year, students should normally take all modules listed in the designated pathway, and must normally pass all core modules (indicated by “*”) in order to obtain a joint honours degree with “Economics” in the title.

Course structure

For information on the required non-Economics modules you must contact the School of Politics and International Relations. The required Economics modules for the LL12 Economics and Politics degree are set out below.

In Year 1, students must take:

  • ECN106 Macroeconomics 1
  • ECN111 Microeconomics 1
  • ECN113 Principles of Economics
  • ECN114 Mathematical Methods in Economics and Business 1

In Year 2, students must take

  • ECN121 Statistical Methods in Economics
  • ECN206 Macroeconomics 2
  • ECN211 Microeconomics 2
  • ECN214 Games and Strategies

Note that students have to file the appropriate Module Level Permission Form for ECN121.

In Year 3, students must take at least six modules at Level 6, including one Level 6 module offered by the School of Economics and Finance.

Please note that your choice of options in Years 2 and 3 will be constrained by the units you have taken in previous years. You should check the prerequisites for Year 2 and Year 3 modules before choosing your Year 1 units.
