Entry requirements

The School encourages 2022 entrants who are predicted to achieve good to excellent A-level grades (at or near AAA) or equivalent to apply.

Equivalents include the International and European Baccalaureates, Irish Leaving Certificate and Scottish Framework Qualifications, as well as relevant EU qualifications. Equivalents from overseas (non EU) examinations are also welcome, as are applications from mature or returning students.

If you have any questions about the suitability of your predicted grades we strongly encourage you to contact the Admissions Team.

This page outlines the entry requirements for all undergraduate degrees of the School of Economics and Finance for UK and international students.

UK entry requirements

  • A-levels:
We require AAA from three A-levels, and this must include Mathematics (or Pure Maths). General Studies, Critical Thinking and Use of Maths are not accepted. We will take the mix of your subjects and predicted grades into account, and you may find it helpful to have a look at the Russell Group’s Informed Choices website, which includes a list of subjects that are considered to 'facilitate' admission to university.
  • International Baccalaureate:
We require 36 points overall, including 6,6,6 in higher level subjects. Must include at least 6 in standard level Maths. Maths Studies is not accepted.
  • European Baccalaureate:
We require at least 82% overall and at least 8.0 in Maths and 6.5 in English.

International Regions

Each year we welcome an array of thinkers, changemakers, and future leaders from over 170 countries to Queen Mary University of London. Do you want to join our community of accomplished students and alumni? Find the information you need on our regional webpages.

Do we accept transfer students?

Besides transfers from the University of London External Diploma we generally do not encourage transfers into any of our programmes, although we sometimes consider applications for direct entry into the second year (never into the third year) in exceptional circumstances and as a matter of discretion. It may depend in part upon the reason for the request and the compatibility of the two programmes. The applicant's qualifications must match the entry requirements of the programme. We would also look at achievement so far in the applicant's current degree programme and may also attach an academic condition relating to performance in assessments to be taken if we do decide to make an offer.

Transfer students are required to make their application through UCAS during the normal cycle.
