ECN223 - Selected Topics in Macroeconomics (Selected Topics in Macro)

Prerequisite: ECN206 and ECN211

Topics include: Consumption: life-cycle and permanent-income hypothesis; Inflation: causes and effects of inflation, disinflation, seignorage, dynamic inconsistency, hyperinflation; Debts and deficits: the government budget constraint, Ricardian equivalence, fiscal policy and output stabilization. In addition to these three topics, the module may cover additional topics such as Basics of monetary policy (e.g., money targets versus interest targets); Rational expectations (e.g., policy ineffectiveness, Lucas critique); Investment; The Euro; Globalisation.
