MSc Law and Finance

The MSc in Law and Finance is offered jointly by the Centre for Commercial Law Studies and the School of Economics and Finance. In the environment of increased financial regulations there is a growing demand for experts with a solid grounding in Law and Financial Economics. The programme is offering students a rigorous interdisciplinary approach and practical tools needed to understand the complexity of financial sector. The programme is aiming at providing graduate students and professionals with a training and strong analytical background in financial economics and law. The programme consists of a main programme and three additional specialist areas in Banking and Financial Services, Law and Financial Regulation and Law and Corporate Finance.

Students must take a total of 180 credits plus write a dissertation. The programme starts in September. There is also an option to attend pre-sessional modules in maths and statistics. These two modules provide a good opportunity to refresh your knowledge of these areas. 

The programmes are designed for students and professionals who aim to pursue careers in the financial regulations sector, in the private sector, in the government or in international financial institutions. The programme is also suitable preparation for an academic career.

Optional Mathematics and Statistics module

Students who want to review concepts such as statistical distributions and matrix algebra have the option to attend modules during induction week (week zero) and week one of the first term within the School of Economics and Finance. Students will be also presented with basic statistics and statistical software during the first term.

Assessment

In addition to the dissertation which would be submitted in August of the year of examination, candidates will also take a written examination in each of the modules selected.


Entry requirements

 

A good second class honours degree in Law or Economics or overseas equivalent and/or relevant professional qualification and/or experience.

 

English language requirements

Non-native English speakers are required to have minimum of IELTS 7 or equivalent. More information on our language requirements can be found on our web pages for international students. Bursaries

The School of Economics and Finance and the Centre for Commercial Law Studies (CCLS) are offering three bursaries worth between £3,300 and £5,300 each to outstanding Home/EU and overseas full time candidates. These bursaries will be deducted from tuition fees payable to the college and are not paid directly to successful applicants.

Successful candidates for the MSc Law and Finance Bursaries will be required to assist with postgraduate open evenings and other events as required.

To apply for the bursaries students will need to complete the MSc Law and Finance bursary application form and return it by 1 June 2012.  You must hold an offer to study on the course before we can consider you for a bursary. We therefore recommend that you apply for admission to the MSc Law and Finance course by 1 May 2012.
