It signals to employers and the marketplace that the School’s curriculum is closely tied to professional practice which will provide students with an important competitive edge in the job market.

CFA University Recognition Program

The School of Economics and Finance has been welcomed into the CFA (Chartered Financial Analyst) Institute University Recognition Program. The MSc Finance has been acknowledged as incorporating at least 70% of the CFA Program Candidate Body of Knowledge (CBOK) and placing emphasis on the CFA Institute Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice within the program. This program positions students well to obtain the Chartered Financial Analyst® designation, which has become the most respected and recognized investment credential in the world.

Entry into the CFA Institute University Recognition Program signals to potential students, employers, and the marketplace that the School of Economics and Finance’s curriculum is closely tied to professional practice and is well-suited to preparing students to sit for the CFA examinations. Through participation in this program, the School is eligible to receive a limited number of student scholarships for the CFA Program each year.

Level 1 training

MSc Finance has a specialised CFA pathway option which allows students to obtain the CFA level 1 training as part of their MSc.

The CFA Pathway Option requires MSc Finance students to undertake the following in the third semester of study:

  • CFA training (one week of intensive lectures of CFA accredited training followed by access to an online portal for further study for the exam in December
  • An assessment following the CFA training period (worth two modules)
  • Short Dissertation (worth two modules).

Students on all MSc programmes within the School are provided with the opportunity to undertake CFA level 1 training at discounted prices during their MSc studies, but it will be in addition to their MSc.

The CFA Program curriculum covers concepts and skills used at all stages of a career, bridging academic theory, current industry practice, and ethical and professional standards to provide a strong foundation of advanced investment analysis and real-world portfolio management skills.

Employers recognize the CFA charter as a reliable way to differentiate the most qualified and determined job applicants, and the opportunity to obtain the CFA level 1training alongside postgraduate study at the School is an invaluable asset to students.
