Colette Bowe (Economics, 1973; PhD 1978) named as one of the most powerful women in Britain

BBC Radio 4’s Woman’s Hour programme named Dr Colette Bowe as one of the most powerful women in Britain today. Dr Bowe was appointed to the board of Ofcom, the UK’s communications regulator, in January 2008, before becoming it’s chair in March 2009.

Dr Bowe began her career at the Department of Trade and Industry in 1975, where she was chief information officer to Leon Brittan. She subsequently moved on to the Independent Broadcasting Authority and to a range of City bodies before becoming founding chair of Ofcom’s Consumer Panel from 2003-07. Colette was invited to join Queen Mary’s College Council in 1993 and served as its chair from 2004-09. She is a Visiting Fellow at Nuffield College, Oxford.
